Klyde Warren Is Getting Ready to Build. Here's Downtown's Park Calendar Through the Holidays.

  • October 15, 2026

"This part of the park phase one has been very much family-oriented," Jody Grant told The Dallas Morning News at the June 29 celebration of Klyde Warren Park's expansion. The park's founder described a two-level pavilion with restaurants and retail on the ground floor, event space above it and a roof deck at the top.

Downtown's park routine already extends south of Woodall Rodgers. Klyde Warren's October 2026 calendar fills weekday mornings with programs for small children, Friday evenings with salsa and live music, and weekends with its big signature events. The Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening programs for adults, like kickball, bingo and patio sessions, are listed at Harwood Park, Main Street Garden and Sammons Park. The $200 million expansion will add new space and amenities to the park.

What Is Actually Scheduled at Klyde Warren

Here is what has been announced. The Texas Transportation Commission awarded the construction contract to Archer Western, the firm that built the original deck. The 1.7-acre addition will take the park from 5.4 to 7.1 acres, extending west toward Field Street and covering the last recessed section of Woodall Rodgers. Klyde Warren Park's announcement puts the start "before the end of 2026" and the build at about 24 months.

The exact start date is less settled. The park's project page says "Beginning in October 2026." In the same Dallas Morning News report, Grant said he hoped work would start in November or December, and transportation official Michael Morris said he expected construction to follow the park's run of Christmas events. None of the published material says how much of the existing park will stay open during construction. No lane or ramp closures on Woodall Rodgers, St. Paul, Akard or Field have been announced either.

So the holiday season looks like it comes first. Here is what the park has on its events calendar:

  • Saturday, Oct. 24: Trick-or-Treating from 5 to 9 p.m., with a free "Toy Story 5" Movies in the Park screening at 7:15 p.m.
  • Saturday, Nov. 14: The Barking Project's Dog Adoption Day, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Sunday, Nov. 22: The Boho Market, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, Dec. 5: The Mayor's Tree Lighting Celebration from 4 to 7 p.m., plus The Boho Holiday Market from 4 to 9 p.m.
  • Sunday, Dec. 6: The Boho Holiday Market, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, Dec. 12: Saint Michael's Farmers Market, which the park bills as its Holiday Market with local food artisans, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Saturday, Dec. 19: Santa Saturday, 1 to 4 p.m.

Every item on that list falls on a weekend. The weekday programming leans toward young children and Friday nights. On Wednesday, Oct. 21, the Dallas Public Library holds Story Time in the Park at 10 a.m., and KidLinks runs Therapeutic Music & Movement for ages 2 to 6 on Thursday mornings, Oct. 22 and 29. On Friday, Oct. 16, a Studio22 salsa lesson and party runs from 6 to 10 p.m., alongside a free Dallas Sounds Amplified concert with Courtney Hart. On Friday, Oct. 30, Yappy Hour and a Dallas Sounds Amplified set by Oboghene Ezaga both run from 5 to 7 p.m. at My Best Friend's Park. The fitness schedule lists Sunday classes, including Yoga with YogaSix, Sweat & Sculpt and Pilates, from Oct. 18 through Nov. 22, and no December dates are posted. The "Toy Story 5" screening is the last movie on the park's 2026 lineup. The food truck rotation is published day by day, so lunch at the deck park stays a daily option even when nothing else is scheduled.

The Midweek Evenings Live on Main, Harwood and Flora

The Downtown Dallas, Inc. events calendar for October fills the evenings Klyde Warren leaves open, with recurring programs locked to specific weeknights. Sorted by day, the rest of the fall looks like this:

Night Park What's listed
Tuesday and Wednesday Harwood Park Kickball Adult League, Oct. 13, 14, 20 and 21
Thursday Main Street Garden Bingo on the Green, Oct. 15, 22 and 29
Thursday Sammons Park Patio Sessions, Oct. 22 and 29
Friday Main Street Garden October Movie Nights, Oct. 16 and 30 at 7 p.m., plus an Oct. 23 double feature at 6:45 and 8:30 p.m.
Saturday Harwood Park Downtown Goat Yoga, Oct. 17

The Oct. 23 double feature pairs "Addams Family Values" with "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Friday is the one night both sides of the freeway program, so Oct. 16 and Oct. 30 bring a choice between a Main Street Garden movie and live music at Klyde Warren. Main Street Garden, at 1902 Main St., also has a café that stays open all year. 1920 Rodeo Cafe serves BBQ and Tex-Mex Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and is closed Sundays.

Harwood Park is the newest of the group. It opened at 408 S. Harwood St. on Sept. 23, 2023, with a mammoth-themed playground, an interactive water feature, a pickleball and basketball court, two dog parks and a gold-ring pavilion. If you walk down Harwood past the park, you reach the Dallas Farmers Market at 920 S. Harwood St. That's where Dock Local opened in July in the former Rex's Seafood Market space. The Dallas Observer counted it as the brand's fourth DFW location.

The Quieter Parks Fill In the Gaps

Three more parks don't have much on the fall calendar, but their amenities cover what a lunch break or a dog walk needs:

  1. Carpenter Park, 2201 Pacific Ave. A basketball court, a dog play area, an interactive fountain, a children's environmental playscape, gardens and walking paths. Pangea, which moved from Garland, is a few blocks west at 1910 Pacific Ave., Suite 1400, and D Magazine reviewed it in September.
  2. Pacific Plaza, 401 N. Harwood St. A big lawn, shaded seating, swings and Aston Grove.
  3. West End Square, 607 Corbin St. The Frame shade structure, swing seating and a shaded communal table with charging stations and Wi-Fi, which makes it one of the few downtown parks set up for working outside.

The food map near these parks keeps changing. Ari's Pantry, the Italian grocery, deli and café at 1800 Main St., closed its downtown shop on July 15, according to the Dallas Observer. Over in the Arts District, Sor Juana is serving as a Mexican botanero at 1908 Canton St., based on D Magazine's September review.

Halloween Splits Across Two Weekends

Halloween shows the split clearly. Klyde Warren holds its trick-or-treating a week early, on Saturday, Oct. 24. On Halloween itself, Saturday, Oct. 31, the events move south of the freeway. Stage Fright, a free family festival, runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sammons Park, 2403 Flora St. Trick or Treat on Downtown Streets follows from 4 to 7 p.m. at Main Street Garden, though Downtown Dallas, Inc. says more details are still to come. A family could go to both Halloween events, one weekend at the deck park and the next on Main Street.

Main Street Garden Gets the Ice This Year

The planned Jacobs Lawn on the expansion is a 37,000-square-foot festival space that will become an ice rink in winter. That rink is about two years away. This season, the CultureMap City Rink is back at Main Street Garden from Nov. 20, 2026, through Jan. 5, 2027. Through Dec. 17, regular hours are 4 to 10 p.m. on weekdays, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays. Daytime hours expand during the school holidays.

The rink also keeps a weeknight schedule:

  • Tree Lighting Ceremony: Saturday, Nov. 21, with a rain date of Saturday, Nov. 28
  • Cheap Skate Mondays: Nov. 30, Dec. 7 and Dec. 14
  • Two-for-One Tuesdays: Dec. 1, Dec. 8 and Dec. 15

1920 Rodeo Cafe will run the rinkside food, and extended hours for the season haven't been announced yet.

Dec. 5 Is the One Day Both Halves Meet

On Saturday, Dec. 5, both calendars overlap. Here's how the day lines up:

  1. 9 to 11 a.m.: The Dallas Holiday Parade runs downtown, and City Rink promotes it as a parade-then-skate morning.
  2. 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.: The rink at Main Street Garden is open all day.
  3. 4 to 7 p.m.: The Mayor's Tree Lighting Celebration takes place at Klyde Warren.
  4. 4 to 9 p.m.: The Boho Holiday Market sets up at Klyde Warren alongside the tree lighting.

The calendar leaves room for the parade, an afternoon skate and the tree lighting in a single day. The Dec. 12 Saint Michael's market and the Dec. 19 Santa Saturday come next at the deck park. Officials have said construction would follow that run of holiday events.

The Dallas Morning News puts Klyde Warren's annual attendance at 1.3 million visitors, and the park's own announcement says more than 2 million. Grant has said the expansion could increase free events by 30 percent. The next adult kickball night at Harwood Park, 408 S. Harwood St., is Tuesday, Oct. 13.
